Is it finally starting to feel like summer where you live? On Long Island, it’s finally beginning to warm up a little bit. It’s been in the mid-60s and 70s. And let me tell you, it feels glorious, I’ve been able to wear my maxi dresses and sandals! The warm weather usually means longer days, especially on the weekends we’re out exploring the island. Or on the weekday nights where we go to a baseball or soccer game, we’re going from work to the train (or car) to the game and then the ride home. Even though I love summer, I truly dislike the humidity, and it’s the worst part of the summer for me.
In the summer I always change my purse (I haven’t done this yet because #lazy), and start carrying different products in my bag. Even though I work in an office during the week I always apply SPF before I step out the door. I’ve become more aware of my sun exposure, making sure I have SPF on me at all times as well as other summer essentials. In the name of summer and warmer weather, I started changing my clothes, as well as purchasing new essentials and making sure my holy grail essentials are ready for the 2018 summer! I’m sharing my 10 must have summer essentials with you all, these are my never fail and everything I’m drawn to.
Floppy Hat- I was never a floppy hat person but when we went on a recent cruise (November 2017) I wanted a floppy hat. You know the ones you see popular travel Instagrams have? Besides being super cute, it’s also perfect for blocking your face from the sun. I loved wearing it when we were laying out in the sun, especially because I love reading books on my kindle. I also use a baseball hat too when we’re just out and my hair isn’t done.
SPF moisturizer / Lip balm / Sunscreen- SPF protection! SPF protection is so important, so I always use a moisturizer & lip balm that has SPF! I have normal/combo skin so using a moisturizer with SPF hasn’t broken me out either which is great. Sunscreen I use on the weekends, we have sports ones but I’m looking for one that is more natural.
Comfortable Sandals/Wedges- I live in sandals or wedges during the summer. I always have several colors and usually rotate the ones I wear. I like wearing my wedges when we go out to dinner or an event. I have heels that are open toe that I like wearing to work that can also work if we go out. Also, can’t go wrong with a comfortable pair of sneakers. Each summer or year I usually get a few new pairs of shoes, I heel strike when I walk (or run) so the heels of all of my shoes get worn very quickly.
Maxi Dresses- I love maxi dresses, they’re my go-to uniform when we do anything especially during the work week. I have several different colors, styles and I love that I can throw on a dress, grab shoes and a sweater and go. I do have shorter dresses that I like as well but I’m drawn to maxi dresses.
Waterproof mascara- During the summer, I do not wear a lot of face makeup. It’s just concealer, eyeliner, mascara, and brows. I sweat too much and sweating off my makeup is frustrating. Waterproof mascara is great for the days where we’re going places or just running errands.
Summers Eve®– Like I mentioned above, I sweat, a lot. I’ve always been like that (according to my mom), I can sweat standing still if the humidity is that high. And unfortunately, if we’re constantly running around or if I’m going from work to a soccer game I know I feel less fresh than I started my day out. Sometimes on the go, it’s hard to stay fresh, especially when you’re not going home and then going out. Thankfully with Summer’s Eve® new scent Blissful Escape™ cleansing cloths I can stay fresh from work, to a game, or to an event! Each box comes with 16 cloths which can be easily put into your purse, makeup bag, or travel bag (hello 6-hour flights!). The new scent is also in their cleansing wash which is a great way to start your day feeling fresh. I found both of these at my local Target, and there is even a Cartwheel offer available through June! The cleansing cloth will definitely be a new staple in my purse and when we’re traveling.
Sunglasses- I’m a bit of sunglass hoarder. I also have about 6 of the same pair, just in case I lose one. I literally travel with 3 pairs, because if I lose one I know there’s at least two I can wear. Crazy right? It’s important to protect your eyes from the UV rays from the sun, and since I wear contacts my eyes become a bit more sensitive to the sun. I love the mirrored ones, especially in a turquoise color.
Texture Spray & Dry Shampoo- let’s be honest, I use dry shampoo like it’s my job. I love using it when I don’t have time to wash and dry my hair and want to look put together. I also feel like my hair is healthier when I don’t wash it too often. I love texture spray during the summer since I have naturally straight/wavy hair the texture spray gives it the beachy look without using a curling wand. I just apply the texture spray and put my hair into a messy bun, leave it for an hour and when I unwrap it, the messy curls come out.
BB cream- This is great for the days or nights when I just want my skin to look a little evener. I like BB creams that have SPF in them as well as have a little bit of coverage. Usually, I have two BB creams, one that is my winter/spring skin color as well as summer/beginning of fall skin color.
Summer Bag- I still haven’t found a new summer bag, but the bamboo bags I’ve been eyeing might be a new purchase. I have plenty of beach bags so I definitely don’t need a new one of that. But a nice summer bag would be a nice purchase before it becomes a full swing.
Bonus: stay cold water bottle- I did say 10 must-haves, but writing the list I realized that I love my stay cold water bottle. Drinking water is super important, it’s good for your skin, health and keeping hydrated during the hot summer months. I’m picky with my water and do not like drinking it if it’s warm, so having a water bottle that helps the water stay cold longer is essential. I have a hoard of water bottles and several ones that stay cold for hours, I love bringing them to work or if we’re running errands, I leave it in the car!
