CA and I recently signed up for a Winter 5K Series, it’s 4 races, 1 each Sunday on January. I wanted to get back into running, well actually I needed the extra push to get moving. Luckily the price was right for the 4 races, and we were both able to swing it. Luckily 2 friends also signed up, one that runs my pace and we stuck together for the race that we went to and finished without dying.
We actually missed the first of 4 races because the weather was absolutely HORRIBLE, I mean raining cats and dogs, and there was NO way I was running in that. I also hadn’t ran at all, so it was hard to want to go running. Luckily the second race wasn’t too bad, my friend Z and I, stuck together, did a 1:1 (run 1 min, walk 1 min) so we could finish the race in good time. We ran for about 3 minutes in the beginning of the race, to get far enough without walking. It was down by the beach, it was nice, WINDY, COLD, but it felt good to do the first race of 2016. Z and I had our own little cheering crowd, her boyfriend, and also CA who ran, and finished around 25 minutes.
The 3rd race won’t be happening, because we are getting hit with our first blizzard of 2016. The 4th race is the 31st, it’s at 11:00 am, so it won’t be absolutely freezing out, well that’s the plan! The day before I am starting a RunSmart program, it basically helps new runners out, and helps seasoned runners perform better or run further distances. It’s once a week, on a weekend day, Saturday or Sunday, starting at 8:30 a.m. and they help you stretch out, and then run outside.
I am doing that program with 2 friends, Z & J, the 3 of us all run the same pace, and this program will help all 3 of us run better. I for one know that I need help with my breathing, I am a mouth breather, and even though that works for the most part it doesn’t during runs. I lose my breathe quickly and can’t “catch” my breathe quick enough to continually run.
Now that I’ve finally gotten back into a new routine with working out and running, I’ve realised I do perform better when I’ve eaten before working out. But, that isn’t really a simple solution, I never used to eat any food before working out, especially not running. When I workout during the week, I am up at 4am, at the gym before 5, back to my house to run outside, for at least a mile, ending around 7. So basically I’m not eating for 3 hours and working out on “fumes”.
I can’t eat anything heavy while working out, so that’s why I was super excited to try the new Plenti Oatmeal Meets Greek Yogurt! Yogurt is a favorite snack or breakfast food of mine, so trying a new yogurt was easy and have oatmeal is even better. I usually eat my oatmeal, in cookie form, so having oatmeal in my favorite Greek Yogurt was a complete game changer for me. Plenti Oatmeal Meets Greek Yogurt, comes in 6 delicious flavors: Apple Cinnamon, Maple Brown Sugar, Peach, Blueberry, Strawberry, and Vanilla! Each cup has 16 grams of whole grain, and has 11 grams of protein! Now since I workout and run daily, I need protein to help build muscles, and give me the motivation to workout and do well on my runs.
I am so glad I found this new protein filled Greek Yogurt, it helps me keep fueled and less hungry while working out, and I don’t feel like I am going to be sick from eating. I found that as long as I eat 45 minutes before I lift weights, and 2 hours before running for a race. If I go on a training run, I usually just make sure I have at least a banana. But with my 4th and final race, and the runsmart program beginning I’ll be eating the Plenti Oatmeal Meets Greek Yogurt, with banana and an apple to make sure I’m properly fueled and ready to run! Make sure you check out this link and grab a coupon! It’s $.35 cents off 1 cup of Plenti Oatmeal Meets Greek Yogurt, and you can try this delicious snack for yourself!
