Raise your hand if you are habitual over packer? *raises hand* Yup I am too, it’s something with every trip we’ve gone on that I try to improve with. I’m so bad though, because I always think…. well what if this goes wrong, what if that goes wrong? Fear of missing out (FOMO) and what ifs always plague my mind but after over packing for a FIVE-day cruise… I realized I had to cut down my packing. Have you seen the meme that says >>Me normally: “That’s ok I’ll wear the same shirt for 5 days” Me packing for vacation: “I’ll probably change 7 times a day so I’ll need 42 shirts”. << Yes that’s me.
So besides overpacking with clothes, I overpack for beauty supplies! And they are some of the heaviest things that you can pack especially shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. This upcoming cruise is number 4 for me, I am no “pro packer” but I’ve learned my over-packing habits after a few of these. Especially after our 10-day cruise for part of our honeymoon, my overpacking wasn’t as bad because we planned to do the wash to help our packing issues. The last realization that came to mind was that usually, we carry down our luggage when we disembark…it can get really HEAVY when you’re carrying it down several flights of stairs.
Enough babbling! I’ve combed over my packing lists for skincare, makeup and hair products that I’ve used and other products I haven’t. Plus travel bottles that I put my shampoo/conditioner, body wash, hair products, sunscreen (lotion), and anything else that is just too big. I also included a few toiletry bags that I have used while vacationing, they have the hook so you can hang them on the bathroom door to save space.

I know this may seem like a large list but I’ve shortened it and some are travel bottles that the large items will go in. Even though I packed some makeup, this is what I actually grabbed for when I was on my cruises or just away. Most of these products I already use at home which is why I like taking them with me. Most of the hair stuff can be put in the other containers that are smaller, just making sure I take enough for the week. I feel like the most essential thing I bring is the Eva hair mask. The water on the ship is called “hard” water, it’s whatever it’s made up of that makes my hair feel.. like straw. So I use the mask especially if I’ve been in the water either at the beach or in the pool; since the pools are salt water. I actually pack 3 of those hair ties, because honestly…. my hair ties break so easily so I need multiples.
I hope this list has helped you out when traveling! Are there any travel essentials I missed that you always bring? Let me know in the comments!
This list is extensive and so thorough! I’ll have to look into those travel bags – I need a new one and those look perfect.
I’ve never tried that Eva hair mask!!! I need to grab one, it sounds heavenly! Your list is spot on girl – I need to add what I’m missing to my list! You’re going to have a blast on your cruise!!! XO
