On the first episode of Real Life House Hunters: Long Island…
CA and I are in the middle of house hunting, and to say it’s been a long rocky road is putting it mildly. The location we are currently looking just happens to be the SECOND most expensive place to raise a family according to this article. Unfortunately, the article isn’t lying, what you can get on Long Island compared to other cities is a wide range. But, this is where we are settling down, and where our families and majority of our friends are. Once we sat down and figured out that we wanted to buy a house that would be our forever home the first time around, our search officially began. I foolishly thought that this process would be semi short, we’d look for about a month, find a house, put an offer, and tada! We’d have our house. Ya… RIGHT.
I figured since this is going to be a long journey I could document & share what we’re going through with this process. I know people have gone through this process and others are going to go through it soon or in the future. I got this grand idea the other day and just knew it would be the kind of series that I could do and could also flow into a home series. For when we actually find a house and can purchase it.
Now for the overview of what I’ll be sharing during this time in our lives. I’ll also be sharing tips, tricks, and everything that involves house hunting. I know that not everyone’s journey isn’t as difficult as ours or as long but for those that are going through something similar…. I figured we could help. Even if the help is just feeling like you’re not alone in this process, and someone else is going through it. I say that because when we started everyone told us…. house hunting is exciting!!!!! What? Sure it is if you’re process isn’t drawn out, and you can’t even see some houses because someone else put an offer in already.
We’ve gone through the process of placing an offer on 2 houses & having them rejected. We loved 2 other houses and didn’t even get to put offers in on them before being told they had other offers. It’s going to be a long drawn out process, we know that, we just thought we wouldn’t have such issues with the offer area and keep getting outbid. We’re lucky that we aren’t on a time crunch with needing to get out of a lease or worry about selling our home. So that’s extremely in our favor, we just need to find and bid on a home and get that home. Than the next steps will take place, and that’s just a whole nother level.
I figured this would be a great way to vent a little bit, plus share things that have helped us or things we’ve learned. This will also be the post that I’ll link back to for any blog post related to Real Life House Hunters: Long Island – Blog series. I also created a hashtag you can follow on all social media, I’ll try and add it to IG stories too- #RLHHLI
I am SO EXCITED for this series! It’s going to be amazing to see your journey – especially so for you, to reference back to once you are in your dream home! It’s long and drawn out, but you got this! It’ll be worth it!!! XO

House hunting on Long Island is soooo difficult! House prices for what you get are just insane. Don’t even get me started on the taxes, ugh!
house hunting can be so stressful! We went through this in Toronto a few years back. It’s definitely up there in terms of housing costs and bidding wars. I hope you find something you love!
