Happy Friday! I am so excited that it’s the weekend! I have an Islanders game tomorrow and just a lot of blogging work that needs to get done whenever I can. I had an event last night but got home earlier than I thought which was really nice. I made two rookie mistakes for NYC, 1. I didn’t charge my headphones- so I got to listen to a commuter CHEW her gum LOUDLY (pet peeve). 2. Asked to be dropped off at 8th ave instead of 7th ave for Penn Station- it just means I had to walk further for my train lol.
Today’s Friday Favorites is all about High-End makeup! I will admit I love my high-end makeup, I got started on high-end makeup from my grandmother & mom, they both loved their Clinique, Estee Lauder and anything you could buy from Macy’s. My first high-end eyeliner was MAC since I wear contacts my grandma told me I needed to be very careful with what I used near my eyes. I still carry that with me, I stick to eyeliners that are high-end and same with mascara. But, I love my drugstore brands too! It’s a mix of love for the products and a love for saving money for my wallet LOL. It’s a good mix of both.

My top two products from this list are the IT Cosmetics Superhero Mascara & the No-Tug eyeliner. The eyeliner doesn’t smudge, nor does it transfer onto my contact lenses, which many eyeliners have done in the past. The Smashbox Always Sharp Eyeliner is a close second to the IT Cosmetics one, I like that it’s always sharp when you put the cap back on. Performs the same way, the IT cosmetics is just a BIT blacker than the Smashbox one. I have, way too many eye shadows to count, so picking my top palettes was hard. The Latte Palette by Christine Dominique just speaks to my brown eyed soul. The colors are perfect for a simple everyday look, the pops of colors are great for a different look or lower lash line color pop. The Urban Decay Born to Run Palette actually took me a while to purchase it. I had enough palettes and I wanted to see if it performed well for other’s before I grabbed it. With the variety of colors & looks that you could create with this palette, I knew I needed to get it. The mirror in the palette alone makes this a great traveling palette, I love how many looks you can create, plus there are plenty of neutrals which is what I usually like.
Picking a third palette was actually really hard! I love the ABH Modern Renaissance palette, but the Soft Glam palette is the winner in my book. I love the neutral colors with the pop of dramatic looks to make it go from a day to night look with an addition of a darker color to make it smokey. Technically I have 3 primers on this list, but they all have their own great qualities. The Too Faced Primer is great for all year round, I like how the foundation looks after I apply this primer. But, the Tatcha Silk Canvas primer is my favorite primer ever. Whether it’s liquid or powder foundation, everything looks beautiful and lasts longer without breaking up around my jawline (I tend to rest my head in my hands a lot so it wears there first). I did share last week that the ELF Putty Primer is very similar (in my opinion) to the Tatcha primer, so if you want to try the ELF first to see if it works with your skin give it a try. Or if you really want to try the Tatcha Silk Canvas, it comes in a smaller size for only $20, you only use a pea size amount so the smaller one could last you a very long time. The last primer is also a setting spray, Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water is a primer, set and refresh all in one! I use this more often when I apply powder foundation, particularly with the IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better™ CC+ Airbrush Perfecting Powder™. If I want my skin to look even and I don’t have time for a liquid foundation I use that powder foundation and spritz some of the setting spray and it just makes everything come together perfectly. Instead of it looking like I’m wearing a powder foundation.
The two foundations I chose are definitely a preference of how I like my skin to look. Since I tend to get very oily in my t-zone I prefer matte foundations that won’t break down at the first sign of oils. I like the Too Faced Peach Perfect Comfort Matte Foundation since it’s a medium to full coverage, if I use a sponge it’ll be more medium which means I don’t need to fully glam up my face. Plus even though it smells of peaches, the scent doesn’t linger at all. The Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Foundation is perfect for when I am going full glam and want to really make my face look fabulous. It’s also nice because I can sheer out the coverage a bit with using a sponge after I apply the foundation with a brush. An honorable mention of foundation goes to the Bareminerals bareMinerals – BarePRO Performance Wear Liquid Foundation, it doesn’t break me out at all, I do wish the shade that matches me closest didn’t pull so yellow or it would’ve made the list.
I use concealer daily, even if it’s the weekend and I’m just running errands, I need to cover my dark circles. The Urban Decay Naked Skin is perfect for those weekends where I’m not doing anything but I still need to cover up a blemish or two. I can use it on my under eyes but I need to use a peach color corrector, it’ll “cancel” out the bluish dark circles I have. I mean essentially I should use the color corrector anyways because it’ll mean I use less concealer, but I usually forget. The two BareMinerals ones I switch the days that I use them, the BAREPRO 16-HR Full Coverage Concealer I realize looks better if I am wearing a liquid foundation. The BARESKIN® Complete Coverage Serum Concealer one looks great for during the week, “I need to get out the door now” looks. I pair all concealers with the Too Faced Peach setting powder (or the regular setting powder from Too Faced), I will say I do get slight creasing because I do have lines under my eyes and no amount of concealer or prep will make that go away. These three concealers just crease the least for me, and I always set it with powder, the two Too Faced powders, as well as the Laura Mercier, are the three that work best.
Wow, this post was much longer than I expected LOL. Like I said in last weeks DrugStore makeup post, I love my high-end products but if I can find a dupe or even something I like more than a high-end product, I’ll always save my money.
